If you smile, they say you look better
But perhaps they say that
For they cannot bear to see the truth?
They would rather the twinkle in your eyes
Comes from happiness and mirth
Than see that they are actually tears?
The glow in your face, maybe from sadnessBut they will say you are doing quite well!
It is the success of your life that is reflected!
They know appearances can be deceptive
But they will never accept that
You’re happy, successful, perfect – that is all they will ever say!
