You adviced me saying I should've been more careful
Even as you dressed my wounds
Everytime I whined about anything,
You scolded me saying I should be ashamed of being a crybaby
Even as you dried away my tears
Everytime I despaired over something,
You berated me saying I should try harder the next time
Even as you comforted me back to sanity
Everytime I was down and out,
You preached to me that I was being a pathetic sissy
Even as you held me up to move forward again
And every which time you said any of those things
I only looked at you with resentment
Exasperated at your correcting ways ...
Till one day I grew up and realized
That it is because of each of these things you said and did
That I am what I am today!
